lodging Move over Atlantis, Paradise Island resort — another even larger resort development is under construction in the Bahamas.
Ginn sur Mer, a 1,957-acre, $4.9 billion planned resort community on the West End of Grand Bahama Island, takes the current lead in terms of size in Caribbean development.
Components include 4,400 condo and hotel units centered around a 20-story tower; 1,800 residential homes; two designer 18-hole golf courses; two marinas and a private airport with customs facilities; a casino; pools; a beach club; and a spa.
The project, which developers discussed at the 29th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference here, will serve as Florida-based developer Ginn Resorts’ flagship Caribbean development (current Ginn projects include resorts and residential communities in South Carolina and Florida).
Development began last December, and to date, 70% of the nearly 2,000 acres of land has been cleared with construction of both golf courses is under way.
