exoticlocations Erin Callow, of Pompano Beach, took a trip in March to Staniel Cay in the Exumas.
“Basically when you are there you get to experience the real Bahamas,” says Callow, a saleswoman for Procurement House, in Fort Lauderdale. Visitors can find themselves sitting at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club in between local fishermen, visiting sailors and the mega-rich whose yachts often ply the area. The area is great for enjoying the outdoors. There is hiking, fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. “It is too chilly for me to get into the water now,” says Callow. “I am a wimp.” But not too much of a wimp to drift-kayak through the 300 or 400 small islands in the area. “You have a beach all to yourself,” says Callow. “There are seashells and sand dollars.”
