fishing Billfishers will have an opportunity to break out the lighter gear at one upcoming Bahamas tournament–The Bahamas White Marlin Open. Competitors in the late April, Boat Harbour event are required to use 30-pound line.
And, get this: White marlin score more points than blues. Each white marlin release is worth 200 points compared to 100 for blues. Sails earn 50 points.
The Open is the brainchild of Bahamas Billfish Championship (BBC) regulars who noted an increase in local white marlin stocks.
The Open is scheduled prior to the official BBC kickoff, on dates April 21-24. Hatteras Yachts is sponsoring the tourney and spokesman David Ritchie sees the tourney as a light-tackle warm-up for the highly competitive BBC series.
