lodging Baha Mar, which owns several hotels on the Cable Beach strip, announced Monday that international hotel giant, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, will assume management of the Radisson Cable Beach Hotel and convert it to a Sheraton hotel.
The Sheraton Resort at Cable Beach will be the first of four renowned Starwood brands to open its doors as part of Baha Mar’s mega resort project and is scheduled to open in spring 2007.
The resort is currently undergoing an extensive top-to-bottom $80 million facelift, which includes renovations to guest rooms, lobby, restaurants and public spaces.
In November 2005, Baha Mar announced that it had formed an unprecedented relationship to develop a mega-resort on Cable Beach with two of the world’s best-known gaming and hospitality companies – Harrah’s Entertainment and Sheraton’s parent company, Starwood Hotels.
Baha Mar’s Vice President of Administration and External Affairs, Robert Sands, said Starwood is one of the leading hotel brands in the world and has high standards attached to its name.
“We believe that looking forward to the Baha Mar project, where Starwood is going to be one of our major partners, that this will continue to raise the profile of the hotels that we operate and the standards and service that we hope to offer to our guests once they stay with us,” he said.
“We are very encouraged by this announcement and it also concerns the commitment of our visionary leaders that we will have world-class facilities on Cable Beach. We believe that this is the introduction of a number of operational changes that will take place along Cable Beach as Baha Mar Resorts continue to evolve, and as a direct result of that you will see world class standards constantly being implemented to these properties.”
In a press release, officials at Radisson said, “Since acquiring the Wyndham, Radisson and Nassau Beach hotels in 2005, we have made it our primary goal to raise service standards and dramatically improve the guest experience across all three existing Cable Beach properties.”
Don Robinson, president of Baha Mar Resorts, added, “We are excited that Starwood is bringing its distinguished Sheraton brand and hospitality expertise to Cable Beach in order to provide our guests with the highest standard of service.”
Sheraton, the largest brand of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, has more than 394 hotels in 65 countries.
Starwood Hotels is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with approximately 850 properties in more than 95 countries and 145,000 employees at its owned and managed properties.
In addition to the four Starwood brand hotels and Starwood branded spas, Baha Mar will also feature a new 1,000-room Caesars resort hotel and a 95,000-square foot Caesar’s Palace casino as well as a free-standing luxury spa facility – the largest in the Caribbean.
Additional amenities will include an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, 175,000 square feet of meeting space, a 20-acre beach and pool experience with 3,000 feet of continuous beachfront and a 50,000 square foot village with upscale retail, chef-branded restaurants and entertainment venues.
Construction will begin in 2007, with the opening set for late 2010.
