excursions  Discovery Cruise Line, which has sailed to the Bahamas for the last 19 years, has announced that it has signed a letter of intent to carry through a sale to Bahamian firm, Global United Ltd.
Discovery carries some 200,000 passengers a year, and estimates that it must have catered for somewhere in the region of 4 million passengers in total since setting up in 1987.

Global United, for its part, said that the cruise’s route would remain unchanged, departing from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and arriving in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.

The Bahamas, 50 miles off the coast of Florida, number 23 inhabited islands and many others with beaches that are deserted, covered with palms and pines.

The nearest Caribbean destination to the mainland, they are also the origin of the Gulf Stream, which accounts for the extraordinary abundance of marine life found, highly popular with both fishermen and snorkelers.

The Bahamas’ beaches, such as the peerless pink sands of Harbour Island, are of course the stuff of legend, and there is much more exotic wildlife to be found further inland, including endangered species of parrot and iguana.
