realestate  The new Greater Fort Lauderdale Kingfish Classic, a Southern Kingfish Association-sanctioned event, is Saturday and Sunday out of the I.T. Parker Center in Dania Beach.

The Fisherman’s Choice Osborne Open starts April 22. Tournaments are held from 6:30-10:30 p.m. out of John Prince Park in Lake Worth. The trail runs through October. Registration fee is $10 and entry fee is $40 per two-angler team per tournament. Pre-register at the store or call 561-967-2248. The fifth Boca Raton Community Hospital Fishing Challenge is April 24-25. Eligible species are dolphin, kingfish and wahoo. Entry fee is $210 per angler. The captains’ meeting is 7 p.m. April 22.

Catches Paul Castronovo of Lighthouse Point caught and released his first white marlin Sunday 17 miles off Hillsboro Inlet while returning from Cat Cay in the Bahamas o­n his 35-foot Contender. Castronovo and his wife, Gina, were trolling for dolphin around a board with no luck when they saw a buoy nearby and trolled past that.

“Suddenly, Gina says, `Hey, I think you’ve got o­ne.’ She wasn’t kidding!” Castronovo said. The marlin hit a gold-and-green lure o­n a 20-pound outfit and Castronovo fought the white for 25 minutes while his wife drove the boat. “I owe it all to Gina,” Castronovo said. “I could not have caught that fish without her help.” Michael Sanville of Fort Lauderdale released a 200-pound blue marlin, his first, fishing o­n Bahia Mar charter boat Happy Day Today with Capt. Rick Brady Saturday in 900 feet off Fort Lauderdale. Sanville needed 20 minutes to land the blue, which ate a trolling lure, using an 80-pound outfit.

Marc Tanner of Parkland caught a 100-inch hammerhead shark, estimated at 250 pounds, fishing off Fort Lauderdale o­n Sunday morning with his sons Adam and Daniel o­n Bahia Mar charter boat Pure Fishing. Tanner needed about 30 minutes to boat the shark, which ate a dead mackerel. Keven Lacey of Clearwater released 12 redfish, two snook, jacks, small cobias and ladyfish Saturday fishing out of Chokoloskee Island o­n First Light with Capt. Rick Culp.

Scott Brannon caught his first snook, a 29-incher, and Capt. Rick Van Acker landed a 130-pound tarpon fishing Sunday night in Biscayne Bay. Peter and Timmy Donohue of Bronxville, N.Y., ages 9 and 7, respectively, caught four kingfish 12-14 pounds and a bull and a cow dolphin fishing out of Hillsboro Inlet o­n Fishin’ Fool with Capt. Jack Trubee. Trubee also guided Julie and Fred Branston to their limit of kingfish 12-14 pounds in 100 feet. Mike Nekolny of Coral Springs enjoyed good bass fishing in the L-67A Canal in the Everglades. “In fact, it’s so good the fish are jumping into the boat,” he said. “My son Lance, 15, his friend Mike Kreft, 15, and I were near the weir o­n Thursday. We were having a very good morning and each of us had a bass over 31/2 pounds. Mike Kreft took a break, he thought, until a 1-pound bass jumped over the side of the boat and flopped excitedly at his feet. We all got a good laugh.”

Lone Star Bass Guide Services reported bass were starting to move into Lake Ida from the canals, where they were biting wacky-rigged Gambler Aces, plastic worms and soft-plastic jerkbaits. Bert Greene of New Jersey and Howard Danzig of New York caught 21 bass up to 6 pounds Friday. Steve Plamann of Delray Beach, his son Josh and his father-in-law, Tim Quigley, of Wisconsin had 14 bass Saturday and Josh, 8, had the big bass of 31/2 pounds. John McCoy of Lake Worth had 16 bass up to 41/2 pounds. Lyle Chehab of New Jersey had 11 bass, including fish of 7, 5 and 41/2 pounds. Peter Perkins of Pennsylvania had 12 bass up to 31/2 pounds. Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported good fishing for peacock bass in Miami canals. Luis Nieves of Miami had 19 peacocks up to 31/2 pounds using Rat-L-Traps with a Spinner. John Obereiner of Wilmette, Ill., and his son Jim of El Dorado, Calif., had 29 largemouth bass in a half-day trip in the Everglades using 10-inch plastic worms and Flapp’N Shads. Fred Sweeney had 11 peacocks up to 6 pounds using Rat-L-Traps and bucktail jigs. Paul Ruddy of Joliet, Ill., and his son-in-law Jeff Moore of Miami Beach had 41 peacocks up to 41/2 pounds using Rat-L-Traps, bucktail jigs and plastic tubes.

Greg Swinea caught five fish weighing 23.89 pounds to win the South Florida Bass Pros? monthly club tournament Saturday o­n Lake Okeechobee out of Lakeport. Harvey Walker was second at 15.84 and had the big bass of 7.67. Bill Mulligan was third at 14.68. Swinea said the bass were schooling and anglers caught them o­n Flapp’N Shads, spinnerbaits, soft-plastic jerkbaits and plastic worms. Joe and Will Callahan tied Gary Dew for first place in the Big Fish Jackpot out of Everglades Holiday Park Saturday with bass weighing 7.2 pounds. Jeff Justice was third with a 7-pounder. J.P. McKay and John Pate caught five fish weighing 29 pounds to win the Renegades Open team bass tournament April 4 out of Everglades Holiday Park. Danny and Tammy Shelton were second at 25-9 and Danny had the big bass of 7-9. Brett Isackson and John Landry were third at 23-6. Tournaments, etc. The 26th Dania Marine Flea Market is Thursday-Sunday at the Dania Beach Jai Alai Fronton parking lot.
