mindandbody There is a popular Bahamian song that says (in part) …”once is not enough, when you visit The Bahamas, once is not enough”.
And organizers of the Family Fitness Weekend can concur with those sentiments, thus the second annual Family Fitness Weekend will take place on Saturday, September 2 at the Our Lucaya Resort.
This will mark the second year that Grand Bahama will play host to this fun-filled event. Organizer of the event will be Exclusive Sports Marketing and Publix.
“Exclusive Sports Marketing and the Publix Family Fitness Weekend offers you, your family and your friends tons of fun and fitness, all while travelling all over the state of Florida and Grand Bahama, with something for everyone,” said organizers.
The Family Fitness Weekend will include swimming, running and cycling and will take on a triathlon format.
There will also be a Powerade Duathlon, giving athletes a chance to compete in just cycling and running.
There will also be a Kids’ sprint race.
The Grand Bahama event is one of many destinations where the Family Fitness Weekend will be held this year. Other destinations include St. Augustine, Florida, Deerfield Beach, Florida, Miami Beach and Cypress Gardens, Florida.
Although this is only the second year that the event is being held in Grand Bahama, the fact is Exclusive Sports Marketing and Publix have been hosting the Family Fitness Weekend for the past 20 years.
To help bring the rich history of the event to life, all athletes taking part in the triathlon will receive a commemorative 20th anniversary Competitor’s medal, stamped by the Osborne Coin Mint.
The Grand Bahama Ministry of Tourism is proud to be host for this prestigious event for the second time. More than 100 competitors are expected in town to take part in the Family Fitness Weekend.
Not only will the competition bring a certain amount of visitors to the island, but it will also “put bodies in bed” at the Our Lucaya Resort, where most of the activities will be held.
At the same time, Tourism officials are hoping that those same competitors will become tourists outside of the Lucaya area and take in as much of he local landscape as possible.
It is hoped that local merchants will also benefit from this influx of visitors.
Competitors, family members and fans are expected to arrive in Freeport on Friday, September 1, when registration will take place at the Our Lucaya Resort.
A pre-race clinic will take place later that evening, where first time athletes or those wishing to brush up on their skills, can attend a 30-minute clinic on the sport of sprint triathlon.
All events are set to take place on Saturday, September 2, beginning at 5:30 a.m. with athlete check-in.
