sailing  The Royal Nassau Sailing Club (RNSC) and The Bahamas Sailing Association (BSA) are currently hosting the Snipe World Master Sailing Championships, on Montagu Bay, from 1 – 8 October 2006.

The event was officially opened at the Royal Nassau Sailing Club on Monday. On hand to represent the Minister of Tourism was Mr. Colin Higgs, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry who noted that, “This is fantastic for the Bahamas to have been chosen to host the event out of a possible twenty-six (26) countries world wide.

The 2006 SNIPE World Bahamas race is a very prestigious race. This is an opportunity for The Bahamas to gain exposure, especially for this class of race.”

Entertainment for the occasion was provided by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band lead by Insp. Ronald A. Campbell, who thrilled the crowd with its rendition of Bahamian classics such as “Proud to be Bahamian”.

Over the next few days local Bahamian Snipe sailors will compete against crews from nine different countries – including the USA, Italy, Spain, Norway, and Uruguay – in the Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA) organized event. Nearly 35 boats are participating in the regatta, which the BSA expects to encompass seven separate races over a seven day period.
