newsandinfo To some he is known as “Barabbas,” to others, simply “daddy.” Called by whatever name, Queinton Woodside, founder and leader of “Barabbas and The Tribe” junkanoo group, is an inspiration to those he leads and to those he interacts within his community.
He says he does not mind too much if his group does not win…once it gets out there during the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day parades and puts out its best. Just having men, women and children coming together in love and harmony is enough satisfaction for a humble junkanoo leader who sees himself as a “father to the fatherless” and a “friend to the friendless.”
He is as concerned about the social life of his community as he is of is junkanoo group. Barabbas recognizes that one of the major problems facing the Bahamian society today is the lack of role models for our young men, so he took on the challenge and is determine to let his actions, his way of life, positively impact on the youth of the nation.
Seeking to accomplish organizational goals, he first gets input from the group and then goes ahead with plans to achieve its goals. Barabbas was never exposed to any formal training. His educational background extends to the high school level and seminars. The leadership ability and skills that he exhibits is a result of experience, mother’s wit and his unconditional love for people.
